South Africa- Garden Route and Safari

After sightseeing in Cape Town enjoy South Africa's most famous road trip, The Garden Route. Known for it's stunning scenery and natural beauty stretching 200km. The road trip takes you along gorgeous coastlines, national parks and dense forests. The round trip from Cape Town includes car hire and stays in local lodges and vineyards. After your drive take in more of South Africa's wonders with a safari in the Kruger National park for your chance to see the Big 5.

Day 1: Cape Town (3 nights) On arrival into Cape Town take your transfer to your hotel on the Capetown Waterfront. Enjoy free time during your stay and wander around the local markets, shops and restaurants. Take a walking tour or more relaxing cable car up to Table Mountain for panoramic views of the city and don't forget to take in some history and visit Robben Island where former South African President Nelson Mandela was held prisoner.


Day 4: Montagu (1 night)

Pick up your hire car from Cape Town city centre to start your self-drive journey along the Garden Route. After a 185km drive from Cape town you arrive at your first destination, Montagu. Stay in a local lodge nestled on the foothills of the majestic Langeberg Mountain range. There are plenty of great walks in the area and many first class restaurants to choose from. Breakfast is included in your stay. Day 5: Knysna (2 nights)

Start your 320km journey today from Montagu to Knysna, stop on route and admire the stunning white beaches along the coastline. Stay in another gorgeous hotel and enjoy 2 days in Knysna. There is plenty to do in the area such as mountain biking or walking in the nature reserves, kayak or take a boat trip along the coastline, visit a local market or play a round of golf on one of the 18-hole golf courses.

Day 7: Oudtshoorn (1 night)

A shorter drive today of 120km along some stunning scenery to the town of Oudtshoorn, the ostrich capital of the world. The area has wonderful natural beauty and is home to Africa's largest cave system, The Cango Caves. Here you can take a guided caving tour. If you want more of an adrenaline rush you can take the Cango Caves Zipline or for something more relaxing take a trip to the Karusa Vineyard for some wine tasting. Breakfast is included in your stay.


Day 8: Swellendam (1 night)

Take the scenic route along the coastline today making your way to Swellendam. Stay in a small boutique hotel that has 8 spacious rooms, featuring lush gardens and a swimming pool with lots of wildlife within the hotel estate. The local area offers wine tasting, whale watching and nature parks. Breakfast is included in your stay.


Day 9: Cape Town (1 night) Take the 220km scenic route back to Cape Town today as your Garden Route self-drive comes to an end. Enjoy one more night at Cape Town's waterfront.

Day 10: Kruger National Park (4 nights)

Return your car hire to Cape Town Airport and catch your short flight to Hoedspruit, the closest airport to your Game Reserve. On arrival meet your representative who will transfer you to the Kapama Private Game Reserve River Lodge to start your safari adventure. Your safari package includes all food (breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks) and drinks, two game drives per day with a qualified English speaking driver guide in a 4x4 safari land cruiser and all park entrance fees.

Your game drives are your chance to spot the big 5 in their natural habitat. There is time between the daily game drives to relax around the resort that features a swimming pool, lounge area and restaurant. There are also chances for bush walks, star gazing and wildlife photography lessons.


Other safari lodges available, please ask. Kapama has a strong conservation and sustainable approach and makes efforts to protect the environment and biodiversity.


Day 14: Johannesburg (1 night) Start the 6 hour drive from your game reserve to Johannesburg for your final night in South Africa. Stay in an airport hotel before your direct flight back to the UK the next morning.


Option to fly to Johannesburg also available.

Day 15: Depart Johannesburg.
